Howitzer
Howitzers were a type of smooth-bore guns that fired with a higher trajectory and shorter range. They were often used to attack enemies hidden behind terrain. The most common and famous type were the "Napoleons", cannons named after the French military leader.
Grapeshot, several cannonballs wrapped together in cloth and bound together were used in 12-pound Napoleon cannons. When fired, the grapeshot acted as a massive shotgun, shooting balls in a spray. Grapeshot was eventually replaced by canister shot which was essentially grapeshot with many more smaller balls.
